Step 1: These materials are to give to your board so that they can begin the process of brainstorming. I can come out and compile their ideas after the brainstorming, or I can send you a template so that you can do it yourself.

Aspire Exercise - this is a brainstorming tool to that can be used to help begin thinking about a mission statement. Or/as well as good place to start when you want to begin thinking about goals that should be included in a strategic plan. It's very simple, one page with questions you can do yourself, give to your board members, and staff members.
I think it is much easier and simpler than a SWOT exercise (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) but if you prefer that format here is good tool to facilitate discussions Environmental Scan
Step 2: Compile a list of top themes from your discussions, the Aspire Exercise, or items/goals on your previous strategic plan that haven't yet been realized.
Step 3: Take the top themes and divide them into steps
Step 4: Arrange steps into a plan either by importance or in a timeline.
